Long-term UAE residency starts with the right route
The UAE offers several distinct residency routes — the typically ten-year Golden Visa, the five-year Green Visa, standard work and investor residence, and remote-working and retirement options — each with its own eligibility criteria, duration, and sponsorship rules. The route that suits a salaried professional relocating for a job is rarely the one that suits a property investor, a founder, or a retiring couple. Choosing well at the outset avoids applying for the wrong category, or paying for a route you did not need.
TRUVIS approaches this advice-first. We assess your situation against the current criteria, recommend the route that genuinely fits your plans for living, working, or investing in the UAE, and only then coordinate the application.
Where you do not yet qualify — or where waiting would serve you better — we say so.

What long-term UAE residency can offer
A multi-year base
A UAE residence gives you a renewable, multi-year base in the country — five years on the Green Visa, around ten on the Golden Visa, and shorter renewable terms on standard work and investor visas — with the ability to live, work, study, or run a business in line with each route's conditions.
Independence from a sponsor
Several routes, notably the Golden and Green visas, do not require a UAE employer or national sponsor, which gives professionals, founders, and investors more independence over their own status.
Family sponsorship
Once you hold a qualifying residence, you can generally sponsor your family, subject to income and housing conditions.
Residency and tax residency
Residency also underpins the practical side of relocating — opening bank accounts, signing tenancy agreements, and enrolling children in school. A UAE residence visa does not, by itself, make you tax-resident in the UAE; tax residency is assessed separately under its own criteria, and we can help you understand how the two relate.
The main UAE residency routes
Golden Visa — long-term residence (typically 10 years)
Long-term, renewable residence
For investors, real-estate investors (generally from AED 2 million in qualifying property)
For entrepreneurs, and people with specialised talent or qualifications — among other categories set by the authorities
Does not require a UAE employer or national sponsor
Suits those with a substantial, durable connection to the UAE who want security of status over the long term
Eligibility categories and thresholds are defined by ICP and reviewed periodically, so we confirm the category that applies to you — and that you meet its current criteria — before any application is filed.
Green Visa — five-year residence
Five-year residence
For skilled employees
Self-employed professionals and freelancers
Investors
Without requiring an employer or national sponsor
Also allows you to sponsor your family
Often the right fit for qualified professionals and independent workers who want a longer, self-sponsored status but do not fall within a Golden Visa category
Qualifying criteria — such as qualification level, classification, and income — apply and are set by the authorities, so we assess these with you first.
Standard work and investor residence
Typically issued for two to three years, and renewable — depending on the sponsor, the activity, and the free zone or mainland setup
Tied either to employment with a UAE company, or to owning or investing in a UAE business
For many people relocating for a job, or running a small or medium business, this is the proportionate route — and a sensible first step before considering whether a long-term Golden or Green Visa is warranted later
Remote-working and retirement routes
Virtual working programme: for people employed by a company outside the UAE, living here on a renewable permit — subject to income and employment criteria
Retirement route: open to applicants generally aged 55 and over who meet defined financial conditions
These lifestyle-driven routes suit remote employees and retirees who want to base themselves in the UAE without taking up local employment
The exact criteria and terms are set by the authorities and change from time to time, so we confirm current eligibility before you commit.
Family sponsorship
Once you hold a qualifying UAE residence, you can generally sponsor your immediate family — spouse and children, and in some cases parents
Subject to income, housing, and documentation conditions
Because the family-sponsorship rights attached to each route differ, we factor your family's needs into the route recommendation from the outset, rather than treating it as an afterthought

Prefer to check for yourself first?
Take the eligibility check — 7 questions, about 2 minutes — and we'll point you to the routes worth a conversation, before you book anything.
We work through a clear, managed sequence: an eligibility assessment of your situation against the current criteria; preparation and review of your documentation; submission of the application to the relevant authority; and support through processing to the issue of your residence visa and Emirates ID. Throughout, you have a single point of contact and measured, plain-English advice.
Our advice is route-agnostic. We are not tied to selling any one visa, so we recommend the option that fits your circumstances — including telling you when a standard residence is more proportionate than a long-term visa, or when it is better to wait. Where residency connects to your wider setup, such as company structure or banking, we can advise on that picture too.
TRUVIS is a licensed corporate services provider and DNFBP-registered advisory firm based at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi. We guide and assist with your application; we are not a government body or government channel, and we do not issue visas, residence permits, or Emirates IDs. Those are issued solely by the relevant UAE authorities — principally ICP (the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) and, in Dubai, the GDRFA — which decide every application. We do not guarantee approvals or processing times.

Frequently asked questions
Which UAE residency route is right for me?
It depends on your circumstances — whether you are investing, employed, self-employed, running a business, working remotely, or retiring — and on your plans for your family. There is no single best route. We assess your situation against the current criteria for each option and recommend the one that genuinely fits, including telling you if you do not yet qualify or would be better served by waiting.
Does TRUVIS issue the visa or the Emirates ID?
No. TRUVIS is a licensed advisory firm, not a government body or channel. We assess eligibility, prepare and review your documentation, and coordinate your application — but residence visas and Emirates IDs are issued solely by the relevant UAE authorities, principally ICP and, in Dubai, the GDRFA, which decide every application. We do not guarantee approvals.
How long does a UAE residency application take?
Timelines vary by route, by authority, and by how complete your documentation is. Some routes can move relatively quickly once everything is in order; others involve several steps. Because the authorities control processing, we do not guarantee timeframes — our role is to prepare your application thoroughly so it is not delayed by avoidable gaps.
Can I include my family?
In most cases, yes. Once you hold a qualifying residence, you can generally sponsor your spouse and children — and in some cases parents — subject to income, housing, and documentation conditions. Because family-sponsorship rights differ between routes, we factor your family into the recommendation from the start.
Do I need a UAE employer, or to be in the country, to apply?
Not always. Routes such as the Golden and Green visas do not require a UAE employer or national sponsor. That said, certain steps — for example medical testing and Emirates ID biometrics — generally require you to be in the UAE at the right point. We plan the sequence and timing with you so the process fits your travel.
